Dr. Enos Masini joined the NTLD-Program in 2006 as the Provincial TB, Leprosy and Lung Disease Coordinator in Eastern Province. He served in this role for seven years before becoming the TB/HIV National Coordinator where he successfully established structures for implementation of Isoniazid Preventive Therapy (IPT) for people living with HIV in Kenya. He was promoted to become the Head, NTLD-Program in 2014. Dr. Masini holds a medical degree and a Masters in Public Health from Kenya’s University of Nairobi and Kenyatta University respectively. He also has a diploma in TB control and Epidemiology from the Research Institute of Tuberculosis, Japan, and a certificate in Management and Leadership from the University of Washington, USA. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Epidemiology at Kenyatta University.
As a medical doctor, Dr. Masini successfully planned for the decentralization of HIV and TB care to primary health care facilities in Embu. He was able to successfully do this by creating partnership with non-government health organizations and shaping the implementation of the community health strategy in the district’s five established community units. This vast experience enables Dr. Masini to bring on board skills and firsthand experience that are key in steering the program towards TB control and subsequently, eradication. As the Head of the NTLD-Program, Dr. Masini will provide strategic leadership in all TB, Leprosy and Lung Disease activities in Kenya as well as resource mobilization and coordination of partner organizations and agencies involved in similar activities in Kenya.

Dr. Maureen Kamene joined the NTLD-Program in 2009 as the National Programmatic Management of Drug Resistant TB (PMDT) Coordinator. She was later promoted to Head the Care and Support Section where she was tasked with improving the quality of care given to all TB, Leprosy and Lung Disease patients. She is currently the Program’s Deputy Head and CARE Section Head. Dr. Kamene holds a medical degree from Moi University, Kenya, a Partners in Health fellowship on MDR TB & HIV, Lesotho, and is currently pursuing a Master’s Degrees in Public Health at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Kenya and a Master’s Degrees in Business Administration and Management at University of Nicosia, Cyprus.
Dr. Kamene is a seasoned doctor with over 10 years’ experience in the medical field. She previously served as a medical doctor at Nyeri Provincial General Hospital in Kenya and as a Provincial AIDS & STI Coordinator in Central Province. As a medical doctor, Dr. Kamene gained firsthand experience of how TB adversely affects patients, their families, communities and the nation as a whole. She comes with a wealth of experience in MDR TB, Pediatric ART, PMTCT and TB management, and is keen to see Kenya attain Zero TB, Zero discrimination and Zero deaths due to TB. As the Deputy Head of the NTLD-Program, Dr. Kamene will steer the program to mainly focus on finding all cases of TB, making sure those with TB are treated and ensuring that all counties in Kenya have access to the latest tools and technologies in laboratories and diagnostics.

Newton Omale joined the Program in 2012 as a Pharmacist in charge of logistics and supply chain management. He brings surmountable experience in supply chain management and project management having had stints as a consultant at the National Malaria Control Program and other organizations involved in health systems strengthening. Newton holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy from the University of Nairobi and is also an Alumni of the Field Epidemiology Training Program (FELTP) of the Ministry of Health where he trained as an epidemiologist. As Section Head of Policy and Planning and Global Fund Coordinator, Newton oversees the Program’s strategic planning, policy development and its implementation and manages the Global Fund portfolio.

Mary Osano joined the program in 2007 to support the health administration function of the program. This involved coordinating HR and administration activities including recording and documentation. Mary holds a Bachelor of Anthropology and Masters in Strategic Management from University of Nairobi. She is currently the Section Head of Administration and Finance and is charged with coordinating HR and administration activities specifically in customer relations and staffing functions such as appointments, orientation and performance appraisals.

Dr. Kathure has over 10 years’ experience in clinical patient management with 9 of these being in public health programs. She joined the TB program in 2008 and worked at the regional level where she was the TB, Leprosy and Lung disease coordinator. In 2011, she was appointed the pediatric TB coordinator while still working at the region due to her passion and commitment to child TB. She was the program lead in planning and starting the child TB activities at NTLD, and later the development of the training curriculum on the same. In 2013, she became the National child TB coordinator and later the head, care and treatment section. Under her leadership, the program has scaled up the diagnosis of children with TB, rolled out pediatric friendly medications and currently aims to improve uptake of Isoniazid Preventive Therapy (IPT) for TB prevention among children below 5 years of age.
Dr. Kathure is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Public Health (Health Systems Management) from London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She is a holder of a Bachelor degree in Medicine and Surgery (M.B.Ch.B) from the University of Nairobi, Kenya and a post graduate certificate in TB, childhood TB and project management.
She is currently the Section Head, Care and Treatment and the child TB focal person. Care and treatment includes Child TB, Drug Resistant TB, TB/HIV, Public Private Partnership, Lung Health, TB microscopy and Xpert Lab services. Her key manadate is to provide the program with technical expertise on TB and lung health services. This includes development of policy guidelines, development of training curricula, planning, co-ordination of implementation and evaluation of performance in the areas under Care at the national and county levels.

Richard Muthoka has 12 years’ experience in supply chain management. He joined the program in 2006 as the program pharmacist where he coordinated the program’s supply chain management. Before joining the Program Richard was district pharmacist in South Rift. He holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy from Dr. M.G.R Medical University, India and a Master’s degree in Clinical Pharmacy from the University of Strathclyde, UK. As Section Head, Procurement & Supply Chain Management, Richard is charged with quantification and resource mobilization for TB commodities, ensuring distribution of commodities, monitoring rational use of medicines and quality assurance of TB medicines in the country.

Faith Ngari has over 10 years’ experience in Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) specifically in data and information management, and data analysis. She joined the program in 2007 and was situated at KEMSA Logistics Management Unit where she was involved in coordinating logistics data. In 2008, Faith moved to the program’s Global fund (GF) Unit as the M&E focal point person for GF activities. Under her leadership, the performance of GF activities improved and the program achieved a better rating in these activities - a great achievement for the program and the country as well. Faith is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Monitoring and Evaluation from Maseno University, Kenya. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Records and Information Management from Kenyatta University, Kenya. She is currently the Section Head of Monitoring, Evaluation and Research and is charged with providing the program with expertise on proposal development, policy guidelines formulation, training health care workers on operational research and coordination of research activities within the Counties and nationally.

Samuel Misoi joined Nation TB leprosy and Lung Disease program in 2007 as the coordinator for Advocacy, Communication and Social Mobilization and also as the coordinator of CSOs under Global fund. He was later appointed as the section head of Prevention and health promotion, as the section head tasked with responsibilities of coordinating the section activities including Community TB Engagement, TB in congregate settings, Advocacy Communication & Social Mobilization (ACSM) and TB Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) and as well as the representative of Department of Prevention and Promotive heath Services in Quality management System ISO 9001:2008 QMS certification process
Mr. Misoi holds a Master of Public Health Degree from the University of Liverpool (UK), Diploma in Environmental Health (Food Science and Inspection), awarded by University of Nairobi and Diploma in Environmental Health Science/Public Health, awarded by the University of Nairobi. He also holds a certificate in Project Management Program from the University of Connecticut (USA). He has attended several short courses both local and international, such Strategic leadership Development program, in Kenya, Mass media and Communication for public health, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Advocacy, Communication and Social Mobilization (TB ACSM) Planning Course, in Kampala Uganda, Infection Prevention and Control and Performance Improvement in Rwanda, operation Research among others.
As a Public health specialist, he has over 25 years of experience in the field of Public health, both in Kenya and International. He has worked as Consultant / Technical Officer, on Expanded Program on Immunization and Integrated Diseases Surveillance with World Health Organization, based in Nigeria for 5years. He is currently, working as the Head of Prevention and Health Promotion. He lead the Quality Management System (QMS) team in establishing QMS implementation, monitoring and training of staff on ISO 9001:2008 QMS as the Management Representative (MR) and then division was ISO Certified on 23rd October 2013. He has successful been team lead in organizing the National commemoration events which been such success among others.
As the section head tasked with responsibilities of coordinating the section activities including Community TB Engagement, TB in congregate settings, Advocacy Communication & Social Mobilization (ACSM) and TB Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) and as well as the representative of Department of Prevention and Promotive heath Services in Quality management System ISO 9001:2008 QMS certification process.
