Enhancing Public-Private Mix in TB Management in Kenya
Kenya is developing an enhanced TB public-private mix (PPM) data dashboard to strengthen reporting, monitor engagement and implementation of interventions and accountability in TB management in the country.
The development which is supported by World Health Organization (WHO) will provide opportunities to collect and strengthen the use of TB data for decision-making in the private sector and support regularly collating key PPM data on contribution and outcomes.
According to Wendy Nkirote, the National PPM coordinator, the Ministry of Health through the National TB Program is committed to strengthening PPM implementation in the private sector through optimal data analysis and use.
“TB PPM approach continues to provide a diverse collaborative opportunity between the National TB Program and the private sector. This is to enhance and sustain the mechanisms that allow for access to efficient and high-quality TB services with the aim of identifying people with TB symptoms regardless of where they seek initial care,” she says.
WHO in collaboration with Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is supporting efforts to strengthen PPM monitoring through the development of enhanced PPM data dashboards in seven (7) high PPM priority countries, including Kenya.
Dr. Eunice Omesa, National Professional Officer for TB at WHO-Kenya notes that the objectives of the PPM dashboards are to enhance data visualization, and promote demand for use of TB data for policy and decision making.
She opines “This will play an important role in the development of a comprehensive national strategic plan for TB response, tailored action plans for the private sector for optimum models and intervention implementation.”
